HOW THE DEVIL TRAPS PEOPLE IN SIN
TOPIC: HOW THE DEVIL
TRAPS PEOPLE IN SIN
TEXT: For after all these things do the Gentiles seek… Matt. 6:32
INTRODUCTION
If
you know how the devil traps people in sin and had trapped many in sin, perhaps
you might be able to overcome him. Christ revealed to us the strategy of the
devil and the antidote for him
QUESTIONS/DISCUSSIONS
1. Temptation comes when we
become anxious of these things?
(A)What to eat
(Prov 23:3): when we start bothering ourselves over what to eat when we are
yet even hungry, we anticipate the hunger and become so engrossed in seeking
out the solution to the problem that hasn’t come. When the desire to gratify
our body begins to overwhelm us, then we are at the verge of falling into the
trap of the devil. Be careful when your desire for sex starts intensifying when
you are yet married and, when your desire for dainties begins to increase when
you are yet hungry, you are about to fall into the pit of the devil
(B) What to drink (Prov 20:1): the idea of enjoying great wines and the
overwhelming urge to indulge in it is the devil’s strategy to entrap you
forever ever. Alcohols are addictive thus God warns us about the thought of
‘what to drink’
© What to wear: are you a fashion freak?
You want to wear the latest in town even when you can’t conveniently afford it?
You condemn yourself daily because you aren’t putting on the latest of
fashions? When what to wear becomes your daily thought, you’ve lost your way in
life.
The
devil comes and fills us with the thoughts and desires for mundane things and
when we allow such desires to overwhelm us, we have started our journey to
destruction
2.
THE ANTIDOTE: Christ warns us ‘Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall
we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For
after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth
that ye have need of all these things. Matt. 6:31-32
The reason
why the devil had succeeded in making sinners of saints it’s because they seek
for all these things thereby forgetting to seek God first. You can’t be seeking
for what to eat, drink and wear and at the same time seeking first the kingdom
of God. It’s either God first or nothing.
CONCLUSION:
Are you so
engrossed in you desire for mundane things? If you are, then you are already a
gentile (unbeliever) because gentiles seek these not believers. It is in our
desire to put God first that gives us access to every other things and not the
other way round.
