TOPIC: RIGHT GIVING
TEXT: Gen. 4:4 and Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his offering,
INTRODUCTION
It’s not what we give that earns divine respect and commands God’s blessings on us; it’s how our gifts affected us. Cain gave but Abel gave a fat portion. Abel didn’t keep the fat portion for himself; he rather gave God the better of what he has. What do you give to God? Does your gift have any effect on you? Whatsoever you gave to God that didn’t cause you pain won’t give you gains.
QUESTIONS/DISCUSSIONS
1. Is God interested in what we give? Yes, He does (see Luke 21:1-4.) Christ was observing what people were putting into the offering box, yes; God observes what we give when we give.
2. What makes our gift earn divine commendations? Luke 21:4 revealed that God commends us when we give from our scarcity and lack and not from our plenty and abundance. Gen. 4:3-4 also reveals that when we don’t keep the fat portions for ourselves but gives to God.
3. What’s the result of commendable gifts? When we give what God respects and commend the windows of heaven opens up for us. The widow never lived in poverty again though there was famine in the land just because she gave in her lack and scarcity in faith to God’s word (see 1 King 17:15-17). Financial prosperity responds to giving, especially when we give in our lack and scarcity, when everything around us is dry and unfruitful.
4. What are the challenges faced while most Christians don’t give? Everyone should explain their views
CONCLUSION:
It’s not every gifts that triggers God’s blessings on us, but gifts we give during those times when things are hard and difficult and scarce to get.
Lu 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, crushed down, full and running over, they will give to you. For in the same measure as you give, it will be given to you again.
It’s the one who gives that receives; learn to give, your first fruit offering, tithes and offerings.
