HOW TO PRAY FOR A SPECIFIC NEED
THE MINISTERS CHAPEL INTERNATIONAL
SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON
THEME: HOW TO PRAY FOR A SPECIFIC
NEED
TEXT: And it came to pass,
that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his
disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his
disciples. Luke 11:1
INTRODUCTION: the disciples understood that the
reason their prayers had no effect was not because God doesn’t answer prayers
but because they haven’t learnt how to pray. So they asked, teach us how to
pray as John taught his disciples. We too need to learn how to pray. There are
many ways of praying, this lesson is by no means exhaustive.
QUESTIONS/DISCUSSIONS:
1. OUR FATHER: before
you pray, you must have a son-father relationship with God. The prayers of a
sinner are an abomination unto the Lord unless he is praying to receive Christ
into his life as his Lord and Savior. (Prov. 15:29, Prov. 28:9). A sinner is
any man who hasn’t receives Christ as his Lord and savior. Prayer is the
communion between God and His children.
2. PETITION: (Matt.
7:8-10) know what exactly you want and be sure about it, specifically ask God
for it in exactness.
3. GET GOD’S WORD THE SUPPORTS YOUR PETITIONS: (Jer. 1:12, Hosea 14:2) God hastens
His word to perform it therefore, when you want to pray over anything, find out
God’s word concerning such request. If God’s word supports your request, then
take that word with you and personalize it as yours.
4. WORK WITH THE WORD: (Isaiah 43:26, Rom. 10:10) pray like you are reminding God his promise
over your life, then declare God’s word over you like a decree. For example, if
you praying for health, get scriptures like
Ex. 15:26 where God said He won’t put any disease on us, you pray and
remind God of such promise then you declare ‘I have none of these diseases in
Jesus name’ and keep declaring it. Keep declaring God’s promise in relation to
your specific need and don’t stop till you get your desired result (God’s word
works when we work with it)
CONCLUSION: Praying amiss (James 4:3) is when we
pray out God’s word. Let’s learn to pray with God’s word and we’ll get results.
