TOPIC: FALLING INTO SINFUL MISTAKES
TEXT: JAMES 1:14-15
INTRODUCTION: Thoughts
gives energy to the body to act; what you don’t think or imagine doing, your
body wouldn’t have the impetus to carry it out. For example, immorality: its
not a sin you just fall into, before you sleep with anyone, whether planned or
unplanned, you must have imagined and fantasized such act if not your body
wouldn’t respond to such immoral urge or opportunity
QUESTIONS/DISCUSSION
1.
HOW IS SIN CONCIEVED? But every man is
tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. VS 14 the bible says, your own lust,
it means we aren’t enticed unless we’ve started lusting or fantasizing such sin
in our hearts long before time. People who joke with vulgar words are likely
those who have been fantasizing immorality in their heart and if these thoughts
are left unchecked, it would lead us to the place of temptation.
2.
HOW THEN THE TEMPTATION COMES: Then when lust
hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth
forth death. VS 15 we may
think it’s safe to think and fantasize sinning in our mind but we may not know
that once we are thinking it, we would soon become it because as a man thinks he
definitely becomes. The devil makes you think its safe to imagine committing
evil but you fail to understand that once the thought is planted in your heart,
the energy and opportunity to carry out such sinful acts becomes reality (Prov.
23:7).
3.
HOW TO BE SAFE FROM SIN: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that
exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Cor. 10:5 if you want to live above falling
into temptations, you must get rid of sinful thoughts. Greed,
immoral, lying, pride, and all sinfulness begins in the mind as a thought, and
if we can cast down such thought and bring them to obedience of Christ then sin
would have no dominion over us.
CONCLUSION: when you want
to live in perfections, you must begin with thought-managements. Whoever can
handle his thoughts and brings them to obedience in Christ, such person would
never fall mistakenly into sin. We can be perfect when we perfect our thoughts
with God’s word. When your mind is filled with dirty thoughts, let God’s word
renew your mind.
