THE PROBLEM WITH AFRICA 33
He sat very distracted while the teacher was trying teach him in class. Let me call him Charles. Charles's imagination was filled with graphics from his laptop games which is making him feel like returning to his games after the class. That the teacher was saying was making no meaning to him as he kept growing uncomfortably with each extra minute the teacher spends with them.
When the teacher noticed that his attention was not with her, she rebuked him calling him names and Charles would angrily walk out of the class went under a tree and continued the game he was playing before the teacher walked in.
While many people may falsely think that Charles is not interested in education, the truth is, what gives Charles fun has more graphics and theatricals than what gives him knowledge.
Those who entertain us in Africa are doing better job than those who educate us. Every day, they use better graphics to program our games, our party houses are well decorated, well conditioned, filled with theatricals and graphically enhanced but our classrooms and learning centers are just the opposite.
When a child's head is filled with graphics from the games he plays and exciting theatrics from the place of his fun, it requires equal or higher graphics and theatricals to excite learning in such child.
Teachers have to be theatrical and use graphics in teaching if they want to sustain interest in learning in the African child.
We need to use imagination captivating means that'll make the African child find it easy to maintain the image of what he has been taught on his mind.
When the African child is excited by what he sees in class, learning would be spontaneous and it would be easy for him to imagine things of academic importance.
Let us invest not just in the quality of information we feed the African child, we should also use stories, theatricals and graphics to pass down these lessons to them.
Africa would become great when we not just educate the African child with the necessary knowledge but use means that'll print the images of such knowledge on our minds.
God bless you
