SERVING MAMMON
Idol
worship is serving or regarding someone or thing more than the living God.
We’ve read of witchcraft, we are aware of cults, we know of traditional
religion where stones and trees are revered etc. but do we know the most common
form of idol worship? Serving mammon
Mammon
is the god of wealth, when we worship wealth we are as idolatrous as a wizard,
or cultist or traditional worshiper etc.
You
are serving mammon if because of the prospect of getting more money, you
neglect your devotions with God; you neglect your worship day(s) or spiritual
duties to God.
In
our society now, God comes after money, we only worship God on days when our
business isn’t moving well or is closed down; we consider God after considering
our business and job.
We
should consider our business and Job in relation to God and not God in relation
to our business or job, whenever we are considering God second, we’ve become idolatrous.
God
is a jealous God, He is either the first in your life or He is not at all in your
life. ‘...Ye cannot serve God and mammon’ mat. 6:24
True
worship is not the worship you do when things are convenient for you, rather is
the worship you give though things aren’t convenient, yes, when you have to
close down your shop to worship, when you have to turn down a contract/job that
should give you great wealth because the contract/job days would be on your
worship day etc.
So
many of us would be disappointed on the last day, when God would tell us He
doesn’t know us, yes God doesn’t know all those who worship Him on their
job/business convenient day.
Your
worship days are those days you should be in assembly with fellow believers
(church services) and the days you should be observing your personal devotion
with God.
For
those who forsakes wealth and job because of God, wealth and jobs will come
after you in a hundredfold (Mt 19:29) and for those who refuses to forsake or
close down their business to worship God, may gather wealth and not enjoy it (Lu
12:20).
Every
wealth you gather at the expense of God, would bring you pain and misery and
damn your soul to hell.
God
delights in your prosperity, serving Him won’t make you poor, rather it would
make you very rich. Nothing and no one can enrich you more than God can and
will enrich you if you forsake mammon and serve Him in truth.
God
bless you
