THE PROBLEM WITH AFRICA 8
Some young people completed an international entrepreneurship course and were given $100,000 each to go to their respective countries and invest with that money base on the skills they've acquired. After 10 years, their tutor during the course called them respectively to know what they've done with the monies given to them and this was what he got: the British who was represented had a company worth $500,000, the American representative had a company worth $400,000 but the African representative had a duplex, a Range Rover Sport Car and less than $5000 in his account and was now seeking for a way to travel out of Africa to work for any company in Europe. What happened to you the tutor wondered at the African.
We know what happened to the African, his problem is that he thinks like his fellow Africans. An average African cares more about looking rich and doesn't plan ahead.
He came home with the money and built a house, bought a car and gold-watches and chains, accumulated more girl friends and appeared rich without investing the monies for the future.
His African friends would have seen it as the best thing to do, 'at least have a house and a car' they must have advised him. Should he think of building a company, he would have met the greatest discouragements from Africans, because an average (Africans) don't care about your dreams and visions and what you intend achieving in few years time, they care only for what you have now; whether you have a car or not, how costly or cheap your clothes looks, whether you have a gold chain or not and the type of house you live in etc. so for him to prove he has arrived, he would have gone to parties and spray monies, built a house and bought a car after buying costly clothes and chains.
This is why Africa is not developed, it's not the lack of capital to invest, but it's the mentality of Africans towards the future, her shortsightedness that had become her greatest stumbling block.
Someone had said something I totally agree to when he said, 'men of gold don't wear gold'. While an average American jet owner is an entrepreneur who has great plans for the next 50 years, an average African jet owner doesn't even own a small company, his future security is some money locked up in a Swiss account.
Not until we stop caring about looking rich and building up for the future, Africa will never move forward.
A coach doesn't have the skills to play, but he organizes a team of players. Africans who have the means should hunt for Africans who has the skills and talents and build things that'll last and not have their money locked up in some international banks.
An African shouldn't feel uncomfortable not having a wrist watch or a good shoe if he has $100,000 in his account. Africans should care more about the future, the services they could provide for Africans and the way they could develop Africa. We should ask ourselves, 'what visions and dreams can we leave for our children to build on?'.
The rest of the world will immigrate to Africa when Africans begin to put away the pleasure of now so that she can build a better society. When every African have a long investment plan that can provide goods and services to Africa, Africa would grow to be super developed.
There is no color more intelligent than the blacks. Should we renew our minds and prioritize the 'future' more than the 'now', the world would crumble at the feet of Africa and Africans.
God Bless you
