SABBATH (rest) THE SHADOW OF SALVATION
Canaan was a form of salvation for the Jews who were in bondage in Egypt but those who
disobeyed during the journey in the wilderness, the bibles records ‘ Unto whom
I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest’. Ps 95:11
Christ
is the Lord of the Sabbath because He came to give us rest ‘Mt 11:28 Come unto
me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’
When
we try to obtain salvation through good works, we are labouring and we shall be
heavy ladened so Christ invites us to receive the Sabbath that He gives.
Saturday
Sabbath and God’s respect for it is the shadow of salvation by grace and no
longer by the works of the law that Christ would wrought.
Sabbath
is really not a day but an event in history or an experience; Canaan was
Sabbath for the Jews (ps 95:9-110, salvation by grace is Sabbath for Christians
(Mat. 11:28) and heaven would be the final Sabbath for all Christians (Heb 4:9).
The
Jews were instructed to observe as a day to serve as a reminder of the great
work of salvation that Christ would come and do enabling us to enter our
Sabbath (rest from obtaining salvation by works).
The
observance of the day (Saturday) is no longer necessary because the real lesson
and event has occurred in the first sense (salvation by grace) and it will
occur in the next sense (going to heaven) therefore the bible said ‘Let no man
therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of
the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but
the body is of Christ. Col. 2:16-17
When
you are saved, you’ve observed Sabbath; yes you’ve entered your rest though
there left another rest (when you enter heaven).
Everyday
is Holy unto the Lord and everyday is worship worthy.
God
bless you
