Lesson 11
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Spiritual gifts are God’s grace we
partook of when we receive the Holy Spirit. We pick up at least an ability of
God when we partake of the spirit of God. When a man is functioning in divine
ability(ies) is called grace or spiritual gift.
According to 1 Cor. 12:1-10 we have 3 categories
Revelation Gifts: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and
discerning of spirits.
Inspirational Gifts: Prophesy, diverse kinds of tongues and
interpretation of tongues.
Power Gifts: Faith, healing and working of miracles.
NB. There is no ending to spiritual gifts, we only categories base those
revealed in 1Cor. 12.
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every
man severally as he will. 1Cor. 12:11
God determines the initial spiritual grace (gifts) as He wills but we are
to grow in grace (spiritual gifts) through usage and the knowledge of God’s
word.
2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
We are not to depend on the gift rather we are to build up from the
already discovered gifts. E.g. if you discover that you are gifted with the
gift of knowledge, don’t depend only on it, but rather make that as a spring
board as you build up yourself in the grace of God. Paul says ‘…desire
spiritual gifts…’. 1Cor. 14:1 (also see 1Cor. 12:31)
The grace of God or spiritual gifts thrives where there is love and as
the love increase in our heart ‘But speaking the truth in love, may grow up
into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ’. Eph. 4:15.
The more we love and speak the truth of God’s word, the more we grow into
the fullness of God (fullness of divine ability).
It’s wrong for a minister not to increase in grace i.e. spiritual gifts,
he needs to increase intra(lly) (increasing in the efficiency of the spiritual
gifts) and increasing extra(lly) (increasing in adding to his already given
grace)
In the parable of the talents (see Mat. 25:14-30), Christ taught us to multiply
the grace (spiritual gifts) given to us and through love and doing God’s word
we can make that happen. Whoever that didn’t increase in divine abilities would
be cast away, don’t depend only that spiritual gift, increase it.
Christ also grew in grace (spiritual abilities or gifts) as a man, and He
multiplied or increase His divine abilities through revelation ‘Then answered
Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do
nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he
doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise’. John 5:19 so the more Christ saw by
revelation what the Father does the more He increase in His divine abilities as
a man.
If your eyes are opened to divine revelations, your spiritual abilities
will increase. Each time you read God’s word, your spirit increases in
abilities.
Life assignment: set spiritual target and increase the grace of God in
you.
