Lesson 10
WORK FOR
LOVE NOT FOR RECOGNITION OR MONEY
So when they
had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more
than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He
saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon,
son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I
love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time,
Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him
the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all
things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
John 21:15-17
After Christ
had prepared His disciples, before He commissioned them, He asked Peter that
would now lead the evangelization of the world if he loves Him. Ministry can
only be done by those who love God greatly and not those who want to some sort
of reward. When you love God
1. YOU’LL WANT TO BE WITH HIM IN HEAVEN:
the first success of a minister is to by his own ministry prepare himself for
the rapture (mat. 7:22). He must long not to miss heaven. Don’t in your
zealousness to serve the people love the people more than you love God. You
must priorities your making it to heaven more than anything else. So many would
go to hell because they were busy correcting others, they never allowed
themselves to be corrected; they were busy preparing others, they forgot to
prepare themselves. Don’t be like the commercial bus conductor who pick people
to a destination but never drop from his bus.
2. YOU’LL WANT TO WIN SOULs REGULARLY:
there is great joy in heaven over a soul that’s won and if you love God (Lu
15:7), you’ll want to win souls so that there would be joy in heaven. If every
minister would win one soul for Christ per day, there would be fewer sinners
today. It’s not the will of God that any soul perish, it shouldn’t be your will
too because love makes you have same vision with whom who you love.
3. YOU’LL GIVE YOUR ALL INTO YOUR
MINISTRY: if you love God, you’ll give the work of God all of your time and
attention. Many people want to work for God as long as it’s on their
convenience and as long as they are not the one financing it. It’s those who
love God enough to bring their wealth again and again in the work of God that
really loves God. Don’t rate your donations in the work of God in relation to
others, not everyone love God the same measure, it’s those who love more gives
more.
4. YOU’LL LOVE THOSE GOD LOVES: if you
love God, you’ll love everyone including the one who had made himself your
enemy. The reason you’ll treat everyone with kindness is because you know that God
loves everyone and because you love God, you’ll love them. (1Jo 4:20).
5. YOU’LL DO GOD’S WILL: it’s only those
who love God that can do His will. The commandments of God are for those who
love Him. Any minister that is living in his own will has lost his love for God
(Joh 14:21,23). Doing God’s will often requires working against one’s
comfort and pride.
6. IF YOU LOVE YOU’LL FORSAKE ALL:
Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have
left all, and have followed thee. Mark 10:28
And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first
to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead:
but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. Luke 9:59-60. If you have other
business still calling your attention and you are not willing to give up on
that business or person who calls your attention at the time apportioned for
ministerial work, then you don’t love God.
7. IF YOU LOVE, YOU’LL WORK NOT FOR THE
NAME: those who love work for the love and not for the recognition and honor of
working; they don’t care whether men recognize what they do or not, or whether
they are honored for it or not. They are pleased each time a goal is met in
doing God’s work. Mt 6:4-3
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth
so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will
reward you
2Pe 2:15 Forsaking the right way they have gone astray; they have
followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing.
Balaam’s ministry ended in a shame because he worked for wealth and not for the
love of God. Prophets who are in ministry for the gain have made a business out
of prayers (you pay to be prayed for) and they don’t care if these people they
are collecting money from are saved. Whoever is in ministry for the gain, will
be spun out. You can only serve God in truth and in spirit when you are serving
God in love.
God bless you
