THE REAL FARMER
I
met a farmer that grows cocoa every year, his grand father grew cocoa, his
father did and now he is growing same. When I met with him, the value of cocoa
has fallen due to economic crisis that has affected the industries the buys
cocoa from him in large quantities. So I asked him seeing you no longer have
people that buys your cocoa at its normal price, you now sell it for almost
nothing, why do you still grow cocoa, why not change business and he replied,
am a cocoa farmer by birth, I grow cocoa because its my lifestyle and not
because of its business value and this reply got me thinking.
Many
Christians are righteous just because they want God give them a spouse, heal
them, open doors for them, grant them success etc. not because righteousness is
their lifestyle (nature in Christ). That’s why they tend to become sinful when
the reason why they are righteousness isn’t met.
My
father once shared a story of a woman who was looking for the fruit of the
womb, she became so serious with church activities; tithing regularly, joining
prayer groups, cleaning the church and been zealous until she got pregnant and
got her baby, then the church became a once in a year event.
Don’t
be righteous because you want this or that; be righteous because God has called
you into righteousness.
It’s
no righteousness when you are righteous because of a reward, that’s why all
those things you are doing in the name of righteousness don’t have results. Who
really care; the person that cares for you because of the benefits or the
person who cares for you even though there are no benefits?
Who
is really righteous; is it the person that wants something from God and
therefore trying to play righteous to impress God so that God can grant such
request or the person that sees righteousness as the best lifestyle?
Seek
God daily; pray and fast, pay tithe and give offerings, sow seeds, be involved
actively in the work of God etc. not because you want this or that from, but
because these is your normal way of life as a Christian and not a means to get
this or that from God.
One
day God asked me, why are you serving me? I thought for a while and said,
because I love you Lord. I want to keep serving God and living righteously
because I love God and accepts righteousness as my way of life and not a means
to get this or that from God. Do you serve God because you love Him or because
you want something, are you righteous because righteousness is your nature in
Christ or because you want a reward out of it?
Righteousness
isn’t an end to a means, it’s an end itself.
God
bless you
